Man, His Dog Struck, Killed While Walking In Amityville; Victim's ID Released A man and his dog were both struck and killed while walking on a busy Long Island street. The incident happened in Amityville, near the intersection of Broadway and Loudon Avenue, at around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30. Suffolk County Police said the victim was walking his dog when they were struck by an Acura heading northbound on Broadway. The victim, identified as 52-year-old Roy Mathes, of Amityville, was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His dog died at the scene. The incident happened Sunday morning, Aug. 4, in Oakdale.
