On-duty officers from Long Island made a feathered friend when they rescued an injured bird that used to be on the endangered species list. At about 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, Nassau County Police Officers Carlson, Locher, and Gervasio were on the job in East Rockaway when they came across something unusual. The three officers found the injured osprey in a parking lot near Harbor Road. Dog Found Abandoned, Tied To Pole On Southern State Parkway
A female Mastiff dog was rescued after authorities found her tied to a light pole with a note and food bowl nearby. It happened on Monday, July 1 in Hempstead, according to New York State Police. At around 5:30 a.m. that morning, Troopers responded to calls about an abandoned dog tied to a light pole near Exit 21 on the Southern State Parkway. The dog, a white Mastiff named Roxi was found tied to the pole with a leash. Duck Tales: Officers Rescue Ducklings From Storm Drain On Long Island
Quick-thinking residents and a group of officers were able to reunite a set of lost ducklings with their mother. It happened on Saturday, June 22 in Yaphank. According to Suffolk County Police, residents in the Belmont Circle area noticed a mother duck squawking near a storm drain. They were quick to realize that there were ducklings in the drain and called the police. Five officers arrived on the scene and a nearby landscaper helped remove the grate.
