48-Year-Old Dies From Injuries Days After Hit-Run Long Island Crash A man has died from injuries several days after a hit-and-run crash on Long Island. The victim was struck by a vehicle in Elmont at around 4:40 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 13 while crossing Hempstead Turnpike at Elmont Road.  The vehicle left the scene westbound on Hempstead Turnpike, Nassau County Police said. The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
