A long stretch of mainly dry days will finally end as a wet weather pattern will bring separate rounds of showers and the possibility of thunderstorms, with forecasters in the Northeast monitoring the projected path of newly named Tropical Storm Helene. Winter Outlook Predictions Released For Northeast: Here's What Forecasters Expect
With the Labor Day weekend marking the unofficial end of summer, forecasters are starting to look ahead and predict what's in store for the winter of 2025. The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says heavy precipitation is expected in the areas shown in the darkest shade of green in the first image above, including upstate New York and northern New England. There's more to come. After 4 to 6 inches of rain fell through much of the Northeast in the second half of the weekend, a new round of potentially powerful storms packed with drenching downpours aims for the region on the first day of the workweek. If things looks fuzzier than usual, it wasn't your eyes focusing to adjust this morning. That was wildfire smoke is drifting from Canada into the Northeast, the National Weather Service said Wednesday morning, Aug. 14. "You may notice hazy skies today," the NWS New York office said. Beryl, now a tropical depression a day after becoming the first hurricane to make landfall in the US in 2024, will bring heavy rainfall to much of the Northeast. A powerful storm system that swept through the region has now pushed off the coast, leading to a dry and pleasant Father's Day weekend before the first potential heat wave of the year.
