The incident happened in Schenectady around 11:20 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, in the 1100 block of Congress Street.

According to the Schenectady Police, officers found a large crowd running from the area when they arrived.

They located Dubar T. Knowles, of Schenectady, in the backyard of 1122 Congress St., suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso.

Knowles later died from his injuries, police said.

A 13-year-old girl from Schenectady was also shot and is currently recovering from surgery at a local hospital, police said.

Through the preliminary investigation, it appears the victims and multiple other juveniles were attending a party at 1122 Congress St. when the suspect, or suspects, began shooting.

At this time, Schenectady police detectives and investigators from the New York State Police are actively investigating the incident. No one is currently in custody.

Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in this investigation. Those with information are asked to call our Tips Line at 518-788-6566.

According to Superintendent of Schenectady Schools Dr. Carlos Cotto, Jr., Knowles was a 9th-grade student at Schenectady High School.

Cotto said social workers and counselors will be available at school on Tuesday, Oct. 15, for anyone who needs support and to talk.

The girl was an 8th-grade student at Oneida, he added.

"We wish her a speedy recovery and will remain in contact with her family," Otto said.
