David Levine, 69, of Malta, arrived at the agency's Saratoga Barracks on Route 9 armed with a "hunting-style rifle" at around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, police said.
Levine fired several rounds into the building before troopers came outside and confronted him, ordering him to drop his weapon, according to police. Levine refused multiple commands and aimed his gun toward the troopers, who then opened fire, killing him.
No troopers were injured in the ordeal.
State Route 9 was closed between the SR 67 traffic circle at Dunning Street and Saratoga Village Boulevard for several hours while the incident was investigated.
“There is no current threat to public safety resulting from this incident,” New York State Police said on Facebook.
It was not immediately clear what connection, if any, Levine had to the New York State Police or what prompted the incident.
