A Long Island man out on parole shot and killed a man who had been sleeping in a car, a jury found. Kadeem Lewis, age 31, of Hempstead, was found guilty of second-degree murder and related charges in Nassau County Court on Thursday, Oct. 31, in the killing of Jose Sanchez-Velasquez. Seen Her? Alert Issued For 14-Year-Old Girl Reported Missing On Long Island
Authorities are asking for help in locating a missing teenager from Long Island. Ariya Shingler, age 14, was last seen leaving Hempstead High School at around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, according to Nassau County Police. She was reported missing Wednesday afternoon. Shingler is 5-foot-3 and 190 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was wearing tan pants, a black sweatshirt, a pink bonnet, and was carrying a black handbag. Trio Sought After Smash-Grab Burglary At Long IsIsland Business
The search is on for three suspects who broke into a Long Island game store and stole merchandise. It happened in Levittown, at the Collectors Emporium on Hempstead Turnpike, at around midnight Tuesday, Oct. 29. Nassau County Police said three people entered the business by breaking a rear door. They then stole an unknown amount of merchandise before fleeing the scene. No suspects had been publicly identified or arrested as of Tuesday evening. Coast Guard Suspends Search For Possible Missing Kayaker Near Lloyd Neck
Search crews have suspended efforts to locate a potentially missing kayaker near Long Island. A boater contacted the US Coast Guard at around 12:40 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, after spotting an unmanned 15-foot kayak near the village Lloyd Harbor. The kayak was found to be carrying live bait, a fishing pole, and a backpack, officials said. To protect motorists on New York roads, Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced the creation of a new red light camera program in the Hudson Valley and the expansion of other initiatives across the state. Prosecutors filed murder charges against a man accused of stabbing his mother-in-law to death as she left a Long Island restaurant.
