Fatal Hit-Run Crash: Suspect Nabbed In Suffolk County
A Long Island man has been arrested following a months-long investigation into a fatal hit-and-run.
Southampton Town Police said Benjamin J. SheenWaltzer, age 32, turned himself in on Friday, Nov. 15, after being linked to a crash on Springville Road in Hampton Bays.
The crash on Wednesday, March 6 killed Angel Astimbay, age 67, a resident of Hampton Bays.
SheenWaltzer, of Southampton, faces felony charges of:
Leaving the scene of an accident with injuries resulting in death,
Tampering with physical evidence.
He was arraigned in Suffolk County Court and released on $50,000 bail.

An accused hit-and-run driver who struck two employees outside a Long Island school, injuring them, intentionally targeted the pair, prosecutors allege.
Josef McLorrain, age 22, of Brooklyn, was indicted on attempted murder and related charges in Suffolk County Court on Wednesday, Aug. 7.
Prosecutors said McLorrain was driving a Mazda SUV in the parking lot of Eastern Suffolk BOCES’ Bellport Academic Center, located on Martha Avenue, on the morning of Monday, June 24.

Police on Long Island are asking the public for help identifying a car that is wanted in connection with a fatal hit-and-run.
The incident occurred in Ronkonkoma on Monday, May 20, on Ronkonkoma Avenue near Third Street.
According to Suffolk County Police, Elyse Crivaro was in the roadway on Ronkonkoma Avenue, near Third Street, on May 20, when she was struck by a dark-colored Toyota Prius that was traveling southbound at approximately 3:20 a.m.
Crivaro, age 21, of Holbrook, was pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

Days after a beloved Long Island firefighter and aspiring EMT was killed in a hit-and-run crash, police have a suspect in custody.
Christopher Hlavaty, age 22, of East Patchogue, died Monday night, June 10, after his motorcycle was struck by a car near Main Street and Rider Avenue in Patchogue, according to Suffolk County Police.

Fatal Overnight Hit-Run Crash: 22-Year-Old ID'd As Victim In Patchogue
One person was killed in an overnight hit-and-run Long Island crash.
The crash happened around 10:45 p.m. Monday, June 10, in Patchogue.
According to Suffolk County Police, the victim was operating a 2008 Suzuki motorcycle and traveling eastbound on Main Street when a westbound car turned left in front of the motorcycle onto Rider Avenue, causing the collision.
The vehicle, described as an older, dark-colored sedan, fled southbound on Rider Avenue.
