Driver Charged In Deadly New Year's Pedestrian Crash On Long Island, Cops Say
A 39-year-old Queens, NY woman has been charged in connection with a crash that claimed the life of a 38-year-old pedestrian on Long Island on New Year's, authorities said. Veronica Marmol, of College Point, was behind the wheel of a 2018 Jeep Wrangler heading east when she struck the man on Old Country Road near Floral Avenue in Plainview, just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, Nassau County police said. A house fire in Jericho caused significant damage and left two firefighters injured late Wednesday, Dec. 25, Nassau County police said. A Brooklyn man is accused of trying to scam an 80-year-old woman out of gold bars in Franklin Square, Nassau County police said on Thursday, Dec. 19. The victim received a text message claiming her Apple ID had been compromised, prompting her to call a phone number provided in the message, police said. A Long Island restaurateur who shot and killed his girlfriend inside her penthouse apartment over an impending breakup is facing decades behind bars.
