A former local TV news anchor is accused of stabbing her mother to death and has been charged with first-degree murder, authorities said.
Police were dispatched at about 7:50 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31 to a “reported cutting” at a home in Wichita, Kansas.
Responding officers found a woman outside who was later identified as Angelynn “Angie” Mock, 47. Inside, they found her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, “unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds,” according to a department statement.
Avers was transported to a local hospital, where she died later Friday morning, police said. The …

A Jersey City teacher accused of sex crimes against multiple students has been convicted of sexually assaulting one, authorities said Monday, Sept. 22.
On Thursday, Sept. 18, a jury found Apparao Sunkara, 72, of Hicksville, NY, guilty of sexual assault by contact, endangering the welfare of a child, and official misconduct — all second-degree crimes, Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello said.

Driver Hits Officer With Car At Roosevelt Field Mall, While Fleeing With Stolen Goods: Police
A Roosevelt woman struck an officer with her car while trying to flee Roosevelt Field Mall in East Garden City, Nassau County police announced on Saturday, Sept. 20.
Shaquanna Gibbs, 26, of Roosevelt, was behind the wheel of a white Honda Accord when she exited a parking spot in the Roosevelt Field Mall garage and hit an officer’s patrol vehicle around 6:26 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, detectives said.
When the officer got out to approach her, Gibbs allegedly attempted to flee, striking the officer’s arm with her vehicle, according to police.

Murder Of Woman Found On Hudson River Shore Still Unsolved 25 Years On
A quarter century after Jacqueline “Jackie” McCalop was found dead along the Hudson River shore in Columbia County, her killer has yet to face justice.
McCalop, 43, was last seen alive on Sept. 14, 2000, in the City of Hudson, according to New York State Police. Her body was recovered more than two weeks later, on Sept. 30, along the river’s shoreline.
The case remains unsolved, and investigators have not revealed her cause of death. The City of Hudson Police Department is assisting in the effort.
