O’Toole’s Restaurant Pub, located at 1814 Central Avenue in Colonie, will hold its final dinner service on Tuesday, May 27, after 32 years in business.

Owner Anthony Gizzi — who also runs neighboring What’s Poppin — made the bittersweet announcement in a Facebook post Monday, April 7, thanking staff, customers, and the surrounding community for their support over the years.

“Thirty two years of serving the community, our beloved patrons, and our cherished Village of Colonie, will come to an end,” Gizzi wrote. “It’s been a pleasure and honor! Your dedication made O’Toole’s a favorite for many.”

Known affectionately as “The O,” the Irish pub built a loyal following with its hearty menu of burgers, wings, sandwiches, fish & chips, corned beef and cabbage, and Irish nachos — not to mention its daily brunch service and warm, welcoming vibe.

The news sparked a wave of memories from longtime regulars, including Todd Miller, who shared that he met his wife at O’Toole’s.

“We have gone there almost every Friday night since 1994!” Miller wrote. “I met my wife through mutual friends there and we just celebrated our 29th anniversary, March 18th! Everyone knew where to find The Millers on a Friday night!”

O’Toole’s gifted Miller his favorite bar stool and a table from the pub, a fitting keepsake from what he calls “a great neighborhood bar and landmark.”

As the countdown to closing begins, Gizzi encouraged patrons to stop by, share memories, and use any remaining gift cards through Tuesday, May 27. He also teased “special updates” as the pub winds down.

“Thank you for an experience like no other,” he said.
