The fire, which started around 1 p.m. in Center Moriches, spread rapidly due to 35 mph winds, Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine said at a Saturday evening news conference. According to the builders, Tappan Zee Constructors, the demolition has been delayed due to the windy weather. A makeup date has not been announced.
