The number of COVID-19 cases in Dutchess continues to slowly rise, though the county remains in better shape than some others in the Hudson Valley.
According to the county Department of Health, the number of active COVID-19 cases has been trending in the wrong direction, up to 173 as of Wednesday, Oct. 28, down from 107 as recently as last month. In late April, the virus spiked in the county, with 1,860 active cases at the height of the outbreak.

Pedestrian Seriously Injured After Being Struck By Vehicle In Area
A 37-year-old man was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle while walking along a roadway.
Dutchess County resident Terrance J. Hector, 37, was struck around 7:45 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 20, in Wappinger on New Hamburg Road by a 2005 Hyundai Elantra, said Trooper AJ Hicks of the New York State Police.
When troopers arrived at the scene, they found Hector, a resident of Wappinger, in the roadway with serious injuries and transported him to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital by EMStar, Hicks said.

Thousands of New Yorkers are still without power in the wake of Tropical Storm Isaiah, though the overwhelming majority of residents in Dutchess, Ulster, and Sullivan counties have largely had electricity restored.

Tens of thousands of Putnam, Dutchess, and Ulster residents have lost power as Tropical Storm Isaias rocked the region with extreme wind gusts that toppled trees, felled utility poles and downed power lines throughout the area.
Putnam County was hardest hit, with 33,464 of NYSEG’s 38,693 customers reporting outages, with Carmel (11,654), Southeast (5,966), Putnam Valley (4,894), and Patterson (4,460) seeing the most outages.
Central Hudson was responding to 606 total outages that were impacting 63,821 of their customers as of 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
