The ex-cop in Putnam County, Wayne Peiffer, was a member of the Village of Brewster Police Department. He's a resident of the Ulster County hamlet of Highland. Man Charged With Assaulting Taxi Driver With Knife In Brewster A 43-year-old man is behind bars after state police from the Brewster barracks say he assaulted a taxi driver with a knife. Troopers received a call from the taxi driver that he had been assaulted by a customer with a knife on Sunday, Feb. 11, at approximately 2:45 a.m.  Investigation determined that the victim was driving the suspect, Manuel Estabon of Brewster, to the bank to obtain payment for the taxi services.
