Boy Struck By Lightning In Central Park As Severe Storms Knock Out Power To 500K In Northeast
A boy was struck by lightning as a potent system prompted severe thunderstorm and tornado watches and warnings across the East Coast.
The 15-year-old is recovering after the incident on Thursday afternoon, June 19 at New York City's Central Park, on the upper East Side, near Fifth Avenue and East 96th Street. The NYPD say he was alert and conscious after the incident.
The storms caused more than 500,000 power outages from North Carolina all the way up to Maine, hundreds of canceled flights, thousands of delayed flights, and airport ground stops in Washington, DC, Baltimore, and Newark.…
Tornado Watch Issued For Much Of Region, With 60 MPH Wind Gusts, Hail Also Possible
As a slow-moving storm system barrels through the Northeast, a Tornado Watch has now been issued for much of the region until 3 p.m. Sunday, July 16.
It includes parts of southeastern New York -- Long Island, as well as Westchester, and Putnam counties -- as well as all eight counties in Connecticut, and the following counties in Massachusetts: Berkshire, Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex, and Worcester.

Tornado Watch Issued For Dutchess, Ulster
As Tropical Storm Isaias hits the region, a Tornado Watch has now been issued for many counties north of I-84, including Dutchess and Ulster.
The watch is in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4.
An earlier Tornado Watch that included Putnam, Orange, Rockland and Westchester counties, expires at 4 p.m.
In addition to Dutchess and Ulster, the new Tornado Watch includes Albany, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Warren and Washington. The watch does not include Sullivan County.
Isaias is tracking north-northwest, bringing heavy rain and strong winds.
