Seven people were killed within hours in separate small plane crashes in the Midwest over the weekend. A Cessna 180 went down into the Platte River in Fremont, Nebraska, at about 8:45 p.m. local time Friday, April 18, resulting in the deaths of all three passengers, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). A tree company employee was rescued after falling nearly 100 feet into a cavern in the Hudson Valley. The Ulster County incident happened in the town of Rosendale, off Hickory Bush Road, at around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29. A man who was working for a tree company clearing the area along the Central Hudson high voltage power lines was struck by a falling limb and swept into the cavern, Rosendale Police said. Power Outage Measure: New Law Forces NY Companies To Prioritize Fixing Downed Wires
A new law signed by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul will force utility companies in the state to quickly respond to downed wires reported by members of the public. The legislation, which was announced on Wednesday, Nov. 22, will protect residents during storms by requiring utility companies to respond to reports of downed wires no later than 72 hours after the response to the emergency event ends, according to Hochul. Rolled Dump Truck Closes Capital Region Highway, Knocks Down Power Lines
Crews were working to reopen a highway in the region after a dump truck rolled over, knocking down power lines and sending the driver to the hospital. The Rensselaer County crash happened shortly after noon Monday, Oct. 3, in the Town of North Greenbush, on State Route 43 near Holland Drive, according to police. In an update at around 1 p.m., police said the cause of the crash was still being investigated, but speed had been ruled out and driver error is the likely culprit. Man Found Dead Inside Dump Truck Draped With Live Power Lines In Area
A 57-year-old man found dead inside a dump truck after officers responded to a call of downed power lines likely had a medical emergency, police said. The incident took place around 4:55 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, when Clarkstown Police responded to a medical emergency on Route 59 adjacent to the West Nyack Fire Department, in West Nyack, said Clarkstown Officer Norman Peters. Worker Electrocuted Trimming Trees In Area, Police Say
A worker was electrocuted trimming trees while in a bucket lift in the Town of Newburgh. The incident took place around 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 7, when the man, using a pole-saw in the bucket lift about 25-feet above the roadway, made contact with live power lines at the corner of Babes Lane and Lattintown Road, said Town of New Police Department Lt. James Nenni. Police said the man received injuries but could not provide more specific information pending proper notification of kin, Nenni said. This is a developing story.
