Parole Of Man In Rape/Murder Case Of Two Northern Westchester Women Sparks Outrage
Found guilty of the rape and murder of Sheila Watson and Bonnie Minter while their children were within earshot at their Northern Westchester home in Lewisboro in 1978, the now-68-year-old Sam Ayala was granted parole in mid-March and could be released as early as Thursday, Sept. 3. Ayala lived in Fairfield County at the time, in Norwalk. More than 5,000 have signed a Change.org petition urging New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to keep Ayala behind bars. Convicted Killer Of Hudson Valley Teen Released On Parole
One of two men convicted of killing a Hudson Valley teenager decades ago has been released on parole for the second time. Richard Labarbera, 67, who was convicted of killing Pearl River 16-year-old Paula Bohovesky in 1980, has been released from prison. He had been previously released last year, but violated his parole after getting drunk shortly after his release and he was sent back behind bars. The murderer of a 4-year-old boy being held in a Hudson Valley prison was denied parole for the 10th time. Eric Smith, who is housed at the medium-security Woodbourne Correctional Facility in Sullivan County, went before the parole board for his 10th appeal and was once again denied parole by the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. Smith, now 40, was 13 when he killed 4-year-old Derrick Robie in upstate Steuben County in August 1993 in a case that has garnered national attention. Wanted Rockland Felon Faces Multiple Charges After Violent Domestic Incident, Police Say
A wanted 24-year-old Rockland County man on parole for a prior felony incident is behind bars, facing multiple charges after a violent domestic incident. Members of the Monticello Police Department, with assistance from Sullivan County Sheriff deputies and New York State Police, arrested Anthony Joseph Heim of Spring Valley, on Friday, Nov. 23. Sex Offenders Allowed To Vote In Upcoming Primary, But 'Only After 7 p.m.'
This story has been updated. New Yorkers who plan to vote in next week’s primary elections should be forewarned. For the first time, thousands of registered sex offenders and paroled pedophiles are now allowed to vote at school polling places— but only after 7 p.m., according to state officials. The state primary is on Thursday, Sept. 13 and the general election is on Tuesday, Nov. 6. In May, Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New Castle issued a blanket pardon that gave 24,000 parolees the right to vote.
