Several years after ending operations, the Indian Point nuclear plant in the Hudson Valley could still be restarted, but it would take billions of dollars, according to a new report by Politico.
Kelly Trice, the President of Holtec International, which is in charge of dismantling the facility, told Politico that reviving the 2,000-megawatt plant is “possible,” though it would require political and financial backing from Gov. There will be a test of the Indian Point Energy Center emergency notification sirens during a regularly scheduled quarterly test of the system in Buchanan this week.
Between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., on Wednesday, March 24, officials will conduct the test, which will involve sounding the sirens at full volume for approximately four minutes in Westchester, Rockland, Orange, and Putnam counties.

Indian Point Unit 2 To Shut Down Permanently After 45 Years
One of the two remaining operating reactors at Indian Point in Northern Westchester will be shutting down for good this week.
Entergy announced that Indian Point Unit 2, located in Buchanan, will shut down its reactor on Thursday, April 30, as scheduled, after more than 45 years. The final reactor, Unit 3, is scheduled to shut down by April 30, 2021.
