Westchester Resident ID'd As Man Struck, Killed By Metro-North Train
The identity of a man struck and killed by a Metro-North train in Westchester has been released. Surendra Bhansali, 64, of Scarsdale, was identified as the man killed by the 8:26 a.m. southbound train from Southeast that struck and killed him at approximately 9:20 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12. The MTA noted that Bhansali was not authorized to be on the tracks when he was struck. A 64-year-old man was struck and killed by a Metro-North train in Westchester. The MTA reported that the 8:26 a.m. southbound train from Southeast struck a man who was unauthorized to be on the tracks at approximately 9:20 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12. The MTA has launched an extensive investigation regarding “massive” overtime payments that saw its workers earn more than $400 million in overtime last year. Metro-North Rate Hike Takes Effect
The nearly four-percent rate increase approved by MTA officials in February went into effect on Easter Sunday, April 21. Commuters who purchase a monthly ticket, now more than $460, to use the Hudson line from Poughkeepsie, New Hamburg and Beacon will see no increase either. Monthly and weekly ticket buyers will see an increase of no more than 3.85 percent and there will be no increase for weekly tickets of $147 or more. A series of buses will be substituting for trains during the Metro-North work over the course of three upcoming days in Dutchess and Putnam, according to the MTA. Metro-North officials are investigating after a person was found dead on the tracks at a train station in the area The body was discovered around 10:46 p.m., Monday, April 1, when the crew of a westbound train from Stamford to Grand Central Station reported a deceased person on the tracks at the Mount Vernon East Train Station, said MTA officials.
