A man who was charged two decades after the 2003 murder of 20-year-old Megan McDonald has been released from custody and a special prosecutor has been named to cover the case.
Orange County resident Edward V. Holley, age 42, of Wawayanda, was arrested on Thursday, April 20, and charged with killing the 20-year-old, said Trooper Steven Nevel.
McDonald's bludgeoned body was found in Orange County on Saturday, March 15, 2003, in the field off Bowser Road in the town of Wallkill.

Moments after completing his jail sentence for having inappropriate sexual contact with four different teenagers, a New York man was immediately re-arrested on a new sex charge, authorities said.
Kyle Pascher, age 21, of Troy, was taken into custody Friday, Sept. 23, at the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility on a warrant for sexual misconduct.
The charge stems from an alleged inappropriate relationship between Pascher and a child under the age of 17 that was reported in January 2022, New York State Police said.
