Search Temporarily Halted In Hudson River Area For Missing Woman
A large-scale search for a woman missing in or near the Hudson River has been temporarily called off due to inclement weather. According to the Piermont Police Department, first responders from across Rockland County were forced to call off the search for the woman who has been since Thursday night. Rockland County Sheriff's Office Chief Barbera said the department has deployed its Marine and K-9 unit to help with the search for the "young" woman in the area of the new Tappan Zee Bridge. With the stroke of a pen, Gov. Andrew Cuomo gave another iconic bridge in the Hudson Valley a new official name. Cuomo signed into law legislation changing the name of the Bear Mountain Bridge to the Purple Heart Veterans Memorial Bridge. The state Legislature voted in favor of the new name in June, and the change became final Tuesday when it was signed by Cuomo. Nearly A Million Gallons Of Waste Dumped Into Hudson River During Storms
The storms that struck the Hudson Valley this week have led to nearly a million gallons of partially treated waste being discharged into the Hudson River in Dutchess County. Officials from the City of Poughkeepsie Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) announced the discharge on North Water Street shortly after 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning, before the storm surged in the region. Body Of Bridge Jumper Pulled From Hudson River
The body of a 53-year-old woman who jumped from the Mid-Hudson Bridge between Highland and Poughkeepsie was pulled from the Hudson River on Monday afternoon after a two-and-a-half hour search, authorities said. The woman, whose name has not yet been released, was a resident of Marlboro in Ulster County, Town of Lloyd Police said. Police have released the identity of a 35-year-old Westchester man who jumped to his death from the midspan of the Bear Mountain Bridge earlier this month. The body of Jose J. Sosa Fragoso of Yonkers was pulled from the Hudson River on Sunday, Aug. 5, said New York State Police Trooper AJ Hicks.
