Columbia County Sheriff’s officials said the Cane Corso, now named Barney, was found abandoned on the side of Route 23 in the hamlet of Craryville on Thursday, Jan. 25. A passerby spotted the animal and assumed it had been struck by a car because it couldn’t put any weight on one of its front legs. Columbia County resident Steven Kipp, of the town of Copake, was arrested Wednesday, Feb. 22 following an investigation by State Police. Troopers received a tip about possible sex crimes against a child in the town of Copake in January 2023. Investigators determined that Kipp sent “indecent material” and sexually abused a child under the age of 15, police said. Dutchess County resident Michael Manetta, age 54, was killed in a motorcycle crash in Columbia County on Sunday, July 31, New York State Police said. A preliminary investigation found that Manetta, of Red Hook, was riding his motorcycle on Route 7A in the town of Copake shortly before 11 a.m. when a driver cut him off while making a left turn.
