Strong Winds Knock Out Power To Hundreds In Westchester
Thousands of residents in Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess are without power as wild winds continue whipping through the area. On Monday morning, Con Edison was reporting that there were 31 current outages in Westchester, as of 10:30 a.m., impacting 335 of their 348,198 customers who were left in the dark. NYSEG was reporting an additional 703 customers who were without power on Monday morning. With temperatures dropping and the heart of winter fast approaching, Hudson Valley utility companies are ramping up their storm preparedness efforts. After being caught off-guard by a massive storm last month that left the region reeling, area utility companies have released winter storm preparation messages to their customers. Driver Who Struck Con Ed Worker, Car Caught After Attempting To Flee On Foot, Police Say
A drunk driver took police on a high-speed chase after striking a Con Edison employee at a work site in Westchester before coming to a crashing halt when he struck a car and unsuccessfully attempted to flee on foot. A Yonkers police officer was conducting traffic control for Con Ed at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, when a van sped toward the construction site without slowing down. State's First Electric School Buses Unveiled In Westchester
The first all-electric school buses have rolled out on the streets of Westchester. The White Plains School District is testing out five buses that will be operated through National Express, marking the state's first foray into an electric fleet of buses. The 100-percent electric buses will get an estimated 66 miles on a full battery charge, and drivers will be able to track battery life through their cell phones. Gas Leak Knocks Out Power To Homes In Croton-On-Hudson
A gas leak has closed down a Northern Westchester road and left nearly 100 Con Edison customers without power in Croton-on-Hudson. The underground leak was reported on Amber Drive at approximately 8:20 a.m. on Monday morning, police said. Westchester Congressman Eliot Engel has joined the cacophony of area officials and residents calling on Con Edison to make some sort of restitution after some residents have been “literally left in the dark” for nearly a week. A state of emergency has been declared by Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Sunday in four Hudson Valley counties: Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess and Sullivan.
