Raging Fire Displaces Two Area Families One Day After Christmas
Two families were left homeless one day after Christmas due to a raging house fire.
The fire took place around 2:32 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 26 in Orange County at 118 Plains Road in Walden.
The first responding Walden units, along with the Coldenham and Wallkill Fire departments, found heavy fire showing from the front of a two-story two-family home, said the Walden Fire Department.

Strong Winds May Cause Service Interruptions, Central Hudson Warns
Strong winds may knock out Central Hudson customer's electricity on Christmas Eve, Thursday, Dec. 24 and Christmas, Friday, Dec. 25, according to the utility company.
“We know reliable electrical service is vital to our customers, especially during the Christmas holiday and at a time when we’re also navigating the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Ryan Hawthorne, Assistant Vice President of Electric Engineering and Operations at Central Hudson.

Former Dutchess County Legislator Dies At Age 88
Former Dutchess County Legislator Leonard Babiarz has died at the age of 88.
Babiarz died Sunday, Nov. 29, from congestive heart failure, surrounded by his loving family.
A lifetime Poughkeepsie resident, Babiarz loved to tell stories of his time as an altar boy at Saint Josephs, his paper routes across the city, selling war bonds during WW2, along with many memories of his time in the US Marine Corps, his long time membership and Presidency of the Polish American Citizens Club, and his 42-year career at Central Hudson, retiring in 1995, his obituary said.

Storm Knocks Out Power To Thousands In Area
Thousands in the area have lost power as a storm system has brought heavy rain and wind gusts topping 50 mph to the Hudson Valley.
As of 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 30, Central Hudson was reporting 18 active outages that were impacting 1,035 customers: 624 in Ulster County, 180 in Dutchess, 125 in Columbia County, and 106 in Greene County.
A total of 2,678 of NYSEG’s 901,052 customers, including 1,229 in Dutchess, 420 in Sullivan, and 362 in Ulster, are without power.
Orange & Rockland Utilities were reporting 13 outages that were impacting 2,234 of its 303,406 customers.
