Parents, Community Invited To Wappingers School District Workshop

WAPPINGERS, N.Y. --It's almost time to register for the next school year and if a child is moving up to junior high or high school, a lot of parents have many questions and concerns.

A workshop for parents and community focusing on many school issues will take place on Saturday, April 2 at Van Wyck Junior High School in Wappingers Falls.

That's why the Wappingers Central School District invites all to the Parent and Community Workshop on Saturday, April 2.

The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Van Wyck Junior High School, is for parents with students in all grades from kindergarten to high school. 

Topics will include  the following: 

  • A JAY talks ( think TED talks ) introduction to John Jay High School led via a parent panel registration form.
  • Capital Projects: Understanding the Requested Projects with Rhinebeck Architecture and Ron Broas (K-12 & Community).
  • Learning more about the scope of the Capital Projects planned for the school district and Frequently Asked Questions on Athletic Turf. 
  • How to Be Your Child's Reading Buddy with Michael Clarke (Grades K-2) and (Grades 3-6)
  • Levels A-Z, What Do They Really Mean? With Jessica Turner Grades (Grades K-2) and (Grades 3-6)
  • "Life in the Middle" with Steve Shuchat (Grades 3-8): This workshop will review the academic, social, emotional and physical needs of young adolescents and how the district provides for these needs.
  • NYS Grades 3-8 Testing in English language arts and math with Michelle Cardwell and Andrew McNally (Grades 3-8).
  • Response to Intervention with Richard Zipp (Grades K-12).
  • Navigating RtI strategies and understanding progress monitoring.
  • SAT/ACT Testing and Preparation: Removing the Myths with James Casey (Grades 9-12).
  • The Benefits of Arts Education with Lori Orestano-James (Grades K-12).
  • The What, Why and How of Number Bonds and Bar Models with Melissa Salvatori (Grades K-6.
  • What does STEAM look like? with Janice Lawler (Grades 3-6).
