Asked recently about the 2018 race for New York’s governor, outgoing U.S. Rep. Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook, mentioned Molinaro along with Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino while discussing strong Republican candidates the party may run against incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo, according to the Freeman.
Astorino ran unsuccessfully against Cuomo in 2014.
Noting that he was flattered by Gibson’s unofficial endorsement, Molinaro, 41, said it was “far too early” to discuss his plans for 2018, according to the Freeman.
Gibson said that Cuomo, who defeated Astorino with 80 percent of the vote in 2014, is beatable despite his perceived popularity, according to the Freeman.
