Wappingers Falls Woman Charged With Stealing Jobless Benefits

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- State Police investigators from the Wappinger barracks arrested Lisa Castanon, 44, of Wappingers Falls on Thursday for grand larceny in the third degree, a Class D Felony, and falsifying business records in the first degree, a Class D Felony.

The arrest is a result of a joint investigation conducted by the New York State Department of Labor and the New York State Police, according to the police.

Castanon is accused of unlawfully collecting more than $11,000 in unemployment benefits between April of 2013 and November of 2013, police said. She created false business records by falsely certifying that she was totally unemployed when in fact she was gainfully employed.

Castanon was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Poughkeepsie Court on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m.
