The unnamed boys, both students at Roy C. Ketcham High School in Wappingers Falls, were arrested Wednesday, according to Capt. John Watterson of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office.
According to police, the first teen stole the medication from a friend while off school grounds. He then gave it to the other student at the high school, police said.
The first boy is facing charges of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony; fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, also a felony; and petit larceny, a misdemeanor.
The second suspect is charged with tampering with physical evidence, a felony; and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
Police explained that the criminal sale charge was brought because under the law giving someone a controlled substance is considered a sale regardless of whether or not money was exchanged. In this case, police said, it was not.
The evidence tampering charge sprung from the second suspect’s attempt to discard evidence during the investigation, police said.
The pair were arraigned in Town of Wappinger Justice Court.
The first boy was sent to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond; the second was released on his own recognizance, police said.
