Charles D'Amico, 58, was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Jill Meltzer, 49, after the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the preliminary cause of death as strangulation, said Lt. Gary Hulbert.
D’Amico was arraigned by City of Poughkeepsie Court Judge Thomas O’Neil and remanded to the custody of the Dutchess County Jail without bail.
Meltzer was found after police received a call about 4:50 p.m. for a welfare check at the apartments on South Road, said Hulbert.
When officers arrived they found a man inside the apartment, as well Meltzer, he added.
Information was not available if D'Amico was the man found inside the apartment.
He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Poughkeepsie Justice Court on Tuesday, Aug. 22.
