Anthony Elting, 49, of Albany, entered the Riverside Bank at 11 Garden Street at 2:45 p.m. and passed a note to a teller which read that "We have one of your loved ones in the trunk of our car, if you don’t give us $10,000 you will never see them alive again," police said.
The note, police said, went on to further say that "we have a police radio and will hear when the alarm goes out, so make it $8,000 and three minutes before you press the alarm."
The teller did not give Elting any money and he left the bank.
The bank called the police and a description was given out. Elton was spotted a block-and-a-half away and the note was found on his person, according to police.
Elting was charged with attempted robbery in the third degree and attempted grand larceny in the third degree, both Class E felonies. He is being held pending his arraignment
