The rest of the seven arrests were misdemeanor DWIs. Sheriff's deputies also arrested a motorist for operating without a court-ordered ignition interlock device -- which tests breath-alcohol of a car's driver.
The first felony arrest began as a traffic stop about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, police said. The car driven by Poughkeepsie's Victor D. Ovano, 36, was stopped by police on Church Street for a suspected traffic infraction.
After an investigation, Ovano was initially released after being charged with misdemeanor DWI and aggravated DWI, sheriff's deputies said. Later it was discovered Ovano used a false name due to a prior DWI arrest and was wanted on an outstanding warrant for DWI in Poughkeepsie, according to the Sheriff's Department.
Police arrested Ovano again, and the initial misdemeanor charges were upgraded to felonies. A misdemeanor criminal impersonation charge also was lodged against Ovano by sheriff's deputies.
Finally, deputies discovered Ovano's license was revoked, so he was additionally charged with felony aggravated unlicensed operation. He's due back in Poughkeepsie City Court at 8 a.m. Thursday.
The second felony arrest began with a 5 a.m. traffic stop Sunday on Springside Avenue in Poughkeepsie, according to the Sheriff's Department. After an investigation, the driver, Raul Barbecho-Sinchi, 29, of Poughkeepsie, was charged with misdemeanor DWI.
The Sheriff's Department said Barbecho-Sinchi's license had been suspended after a prior DWI arrest, so he was charged with first-degree felony aggravated unlicensed operation.
He is due back in Poughkeepsie Town Court at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, sheriff's deputies said.
