The incident took place Monday when Town of Poughkeepsie police received a call that a woman was forcibly robbed of her pocketbook while entering her vehicle in a parking lot in the area of Main Street, said Capt. Kevin Faber.
The suspect, Howard Hill of Poughkeepsie, was located after a brief foot chase, Faber said.
The woman was not injured and police were able to retrieve her purse with the assistance of the department's K-9 Team, he added.
Hill was charged with felony robbery and is being held at the Dutchess County Jail on $100,000 cash, $200,000 bond.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
