Nakia Bruton was stabbed once in the chest by a teen he had been arguing with as a passenger in a car that the group of teens walked in front of, said Det. Lt. Matt Clark.
Initially, the incident had been thought to have taken place on Smith Street, however, further investigation revealed that the homicide had actually taken place on Winnikee Avenue.
The incident began around 5:30 p.m., when a group of teens, between 15 and 18 years old crossed the street in front of the vehicle in which Bruton was a passenger. Words were exchanged between the victim and the group, Clark said.
As Bruton began to get out of the car, one of the teens, described as being a black male between 15 and 18, medium build, wearing a white t-shirt ran up to the victim and stabbed him in the chest. Bruton fell back into the car and was driven to the hospital. The group ran off in an unknown direction, Clark said.
Police found out about the murder when Vassar Hospital reported that a stabbing victim had been brought into their Emergency Room by private vehicle.
