Former Fishkill Inmate Faces New Weapons Charge

FISHKILL, N.Y. -- A 26-year-old former Fishkill Correctional Facility inmate, who is now in a different prison, is facing a new charge after police said they found him with a weapon while in Fishkill, according to New York State Police.

Rahmel Smith is charged with first-degree felony promoting prison contraband, police said. He was arraigned in Fishkill and returned to the custody of the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.

Police said he had a weapon in December while incarcerated at Fishkill. He's since been transferred to Mid-State Correctional Facility in Marcy, police said.

State police assisted the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision in the arrest on Wednesday, police said.
