Victor, aka “Vic,” a retired K-9 who worked with the police for 10 years, passed away recently. He was 15 years old.

East Fishkill residents have shared many memories of the pooch on social media.

A sampling included remembrances of “Vic” hanging out with schoolchildren during their lunch period and standing on the hood of his handler’s car while the buses were leaving for the day. Both “Vic” and Betholdi were also praised as being “indispensable” and “awesome.”

Bertoldi posted on Facebook that he deeply appreciated everything everyone was saying about his late canine partner, calling the support and sharing of memories “truly touching.”

“Victor loved all the people he got to meet over the years and loved working as a patrol K-9 in East Fishkill,” Bertoldi said in his post. “We appreciated the fact that we were always welcomed in the businesses and schools which made him feel a part of everyone's lives.”

Whenever someone complimented “Vic,” the police officer said, he’d give him a pat on the head.

“If he were with us today he'd have one heck of a headache!,” Bertoldi said.

He also thanked the Hudson Highland Veterinary Center for the “care and treatment they provided 'Vic' right up to the end.”
