Burglar Who Entered Woman's Bedroom Caught In Beacon, Police Say

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. - A 31-year-old man is in custody Sunday evening after police received a call from a woman who said she was awoken Sunday morning by a man in the bedroom of her apartment on Coffey Avenue in Beacon, who had left after stealing items.

The call came at approximately 9:17 a.m. When officers arrived, it was discovered that the man had broken open the door of the building and stolen multiple items from inside, Beacon Police said.

Witnesses in the area provided a direction of travel and, after a K-9 track, Anthony Verdile of Beacon was arrested and charged with burglary (a Class C felony), criminal mischief (a Class E felony), petit larceny (a misdemeanor) and criminal possession of a controlled substance (a misdemeanor).

Verdile was arraigned in Beacon City Court and held on bail.
