A vigil organized by the Dutchess County Progressive Action Alliance is being held Tuesday at 6 p.m. outside the Dutchess County Office building at 22 Market Street in Poughkeepsie.
The vigil is designed to oppose the white supremacist march that occurred in Charlottesville last weekend and urge local elected officials to speak out and condemn the racist events in Charlottesville. A demonstration will be held at Route 44 and Route in 55 following the vigil.
Rep. John Faso (R-Kinderhook) said he rejects hate groups like white supremacists, neo-Nazis and the KKK, saying they have no legitimate place in our political and societal discourse.
"I am confident that the Department of Justice will vigorously prosecute and hold accountable those responsible for the abhorrent acts which occurred in Charlottesville over the weekend," Faso said.
Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro said, "The bigotry, racism, and violence seen in Charlottesville exhibit the worst of humanity. And all of us, regardless of race, faith or party affiliation must condemn it and call it for what it is: Evil and anti-American."
