Storm Knocks Out Power In Dutchess County

Hundreds of area residents have lost power as a strong pre-Christmas storm with drenching rain and gusty winds is hitting the region.

As of 9:15 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, NYSEG was reporting that 514 of its 38,310 Putnam County customers were without power, and just one of its 15,621 customers in Dutchess County were without power. Meanwhile, Central Hudson had 52 of its 118,205 customers in Dutchess reporting outages.

Patterson was hit the hardest, with 295 customers reporting outages, followed by Southeast (216 outages).

Downpours struck the region overnight, with heavy rain and winds reaching gusts nearing 45 mph, sending trees toppling and power lines to the ground. The storm is expected to last through the afternoon, leaving travel plans in flux as flooding hit the area.

As much as 3 inches of rain is likely in the area during the day, which may lead to flooding, according to the National Weather Service.
