Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation Wednesday that will increase the fines of killing deer, bear, moose, and elk out of season to a minimum of $500 and a maximum of $3,000. The bill takes effect in 120 days.
Hunters are also banned from shining spotlights onto deer, causing them to freeze and making them easier to kill.
Repeat offenders are subject to increased penalties.
