The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert on Tuesday to Dutchess residents regarding the residency of 67-year-old John Yarbough, who has moved from Amenia to an apartment on Main Street in Beacon.
The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Yarbough a Level 3 threat, which means he is a “high-risk repeat offender and possible threat to public safety.” He has also been designated for lifetime registration, though he can petition for relief.
According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Yarbough had sexual intercourse with his victim in 1982 and was arrested by the Westchester County Department of Public Safety. He was convicted on a charge of first-degree rape the following year and sentenced to between 100 months and 25 years in state prison. He is now under the jurisdiction of the Beacon City Police Department.
