Richard Doyle, 55, of Mahopac, was charged in July with three misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty in connection with the store in Danbury, newstimes.com said.
On Sept. 30, he closed his American Breeders: Puppies & Kittens shop located in the Dutchess Shopping Plaza on Route 9 in Wappingers Falls, said newstimes.com.
Doyle also owns two other pet shops: one in Mohegan Lake, N.Y., and another on Federal Road in Danbury, both of which remain open, added the newstimes.com.
Doyle and one of his managers, Kathy Seton, 29, of Cold Springs, failed to properly care for three animals in the Danbury store, two of which had to be euthanized, police said when they were arrested. Seton, 29, has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty. (Read more about the arrests here in Daily Voice.)
Both Doyle and Seton have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
