The event was held at the Henry A. Wallace Center at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Home in Hyde Park. The highlight of the event was the Medal Presentation Ceremony which featured an Honor Guard presentation by the Hudson Valley Alumni Guard. Five veterans received awards: a 100-year-old veteran of World War II, two Vietnam War veterans, and two Persian Gulf War veterans.

The United State Navy sent flags that flew over the USS Roosevelt, adopted as the official warship of Dutchess County, to United States Congressman Chris Gibson and New York State Sen. Sue Serino. The Congressman and Senator presented Dutchess County with the flags and Director Rivera read a letter from J.S. Reller, the Commanding Officer of the USS Roosevelt.

“Our Veterans Appreciation Day event is a chance to gather together as a community and thank the courageous men and women of our Armed Forces, both past and present, who have served our nation and earned our gratitude,” said County Executive Molinaro.
