Poughkeepsie Police Records Employee Known For Sense Of Humor Dies

A longtime Hudson Valley police records employee known for her engaging personality has died at 68.

Dutchess County native Dorinda R. 'Rindy' Germano, of Poughkeepsie, died peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Monticello.

Born in Poughkeepsie, Rindy lived her 68 years with a "contagious zest for life and a heart brimming with kindness," according to her obituary.

Professionally, Rindy was a dedicated record keeper for the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department from 2003 until her death. 

"Her meticulous nature and unwavering integrity made her an invaluable asset to the department, and her warm, engaging personality made her a favorite among her colleagues," her obituary said.

Rindy also found joy in the simple pleasures of needlepoint and crafts and had a real sense of humor. According to her obituary, "Her laughter and her ability to find fun in every situation were legendary."

She is survived by two sons, Terrence M. Germano of New Windsor and Shawn P. Germano of Hyde Park. She was the adored grandmother to Bella R. Germano of Hyde Park, Leah N. Germano, Norah L. Germano of Pine Bush, and Jonathan T. Germano of New Windsor. Rindy was preceded in death by her dear sister, Cara Gentile, and her loving parents.

The police department PBA said: "Please join us in keeping Dorinda and her family in your thoughts and prayers."

A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 20, at Sweet's Funeral Home, 4365 Albany Post Road (Route 9), Hyde Park. A memorial service will follow from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
