"We came up with the idea, and this is the first year we're doing it," Manager Christina Hoffman - an Air Force National Guard member herself - told Daily Voice. "People at Crossfit 845 include a large military support community, so it was all hands on deck as soon as the idea was floated.
"And some of our members are also teachers, so they're having their students write Christmas cards too," Hoffman added.
Around 25 to 30 members each volunteered to bake a couple hundred cookies, which will be delivered to Treats For the Troops organization, which will then distribute the goods to soldiers in Jordan, Afganistan and other areas around the world, who can't be with their families for the holidays.
"Talk about a sacrifice," Hoffman said. "Being away from your family , especially at this time of year, is hard, and to show our appreciation for the troops is always important. It's important not to forget that not everyone can be with family, and when they can't be with family, this is the stuff that's important to them."
Crossfit 845 is located at 7 Nancy Court, Suite 1, in Wappingers Falls, and can be reached at 845-214-0101.
