It's classic Americana.
Beacon's family-owned and operated Yankee Clipper is indeed the real deal. The diner opened in 1946, and the classic look - inside and out - has changed, but not much.
You know you're from Beacon if you've eaten at the Yankee Clipper. And if you're from Beacon, you probably have your own Yankee Clipper memories.
YC's Maria Petsis calls the place the 'heart of the city,' and she may be right. "We're kind of like the heart of Beacon," Petsis told Daily Voice. Nikos Pertesis and his wife Katina, and partner Petros Petsas and his wife Tonia, took over the diner in 2003.
Petsis explained the allure of the classic diner atmosphere. "It's just homey," she said. "Everybody knows everyone... kind of like Cheers. All of our waiters and waitresses have been here five to 10 years or more... I don't think there's another place in Beacon like it."
What do people love about a real diner?
"I think it's the family hospitality, and people love the atmosphere," Nikos Pertesis said. "Breakfast is very big - people can get breakfast, fast, and they love our salads. And we have people, regulars, who have been coming in since the beginning."
