New Dutchess County Breast-Feeding Clinic Open In Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE, N. Y. -- Families in the Dutchess County area now have a new resource in Poughkeepsie for help feeding young babies.

Dutchess County recently opened the Breastfeeding Support and Education Center to provide lactation support for new mothers and mothers-to-be.

The Dutchess County Department of Health just opened its Breastfeeding Support and Education Center at the Family Partnership Center, 29 N. Hamilton St., Suite 109, in Poughkeepsie. A grand-opening ceremony was held Nov. 6.

Lactation consultants will staff the walk-in clinic is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays, and by appoinment. Support for new mothers and mothers-to-be is also available by phone from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, by calling (845) 486-3419.

Information will be available about the benefits of breast-feeding, basics for getting started and breast-feeding while working. 

The clinic is staffed by three certified lactation consultants and one International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. For more details, visit the Dutchess County website or send email to healthinfo@dutchessny.gov.
