The March for Justice is being organized by the Alliance of Families for Justice and will stop in Beacon on Friday, Sept. 1, Wappingers Falls on Saturday, Sept. 2 and Poughkeepsie on Sunday, Sept. 3.
The marchers will be walking 10 miles a day and it will culminate with a rally in Albany on Sept. 13, the anniversary of the 1971 Attica prison uprising. Actor Danny Glover is a supporter of the march.
"The scourge of mass incarceration and the criminal injustice system on the poor, Black and brown communities throughout New York State and the country must be exposed and eliminated,” said Glover.
Other marchers include students, community leaders, members of faith-based organizations, families of incarcerated people, organized labor, social workers, lawyers, teachers, service providers, policy makers, formerly incarcerated people, academics, athletes, elected officials from local municipalities, organizers, and health professionals
"Mass incarceration and mass criminalization are issues that collectively, we can change," Soffiyah Elijah, executive director of the Alliance of Families for Justice said. "Every step counts."
