POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Beer goes with fall, well, like pumpkins and apples.

According to Jason Daniels, owner of Half Time Beverage in Poughkeepsie (there's a second location in Mamaroneck), autumn is the time to leave the lighter flavors of summer behind for bolder, stronger beers meaning sours, barrel-aged beers, pumpkins and more are ideal.

Some of those Daniels recommends:

  • Bad Seed Apple Pie Dry Cider: Made with cider produced in the Hudson Valley; literally tastes like apple pie so everything is super fresh and very crisp.
  • Bourbon County produced by Goose Island, offers bourbon barrel aged stout. Daniels says it's rich, complex and perfected over many years of brewing.
  • Southern Tier Pumpkin features a bold pumpkin flavor. Daniels said this was one of the originals that was able to take over markets with a product that was appealing to many genders, ages and demographics.
  • Founder Breakfast Stout offers the taste of coffee, chocolate and oatmeal.
  • Backwoods Bastard has a nice toasted almond flavor along with rich bourbon. Notes of toffee and caramel as well.

And watch out for new holiday releases with its rush of seasonals and specialties.
