Golden Corral Calls Poughkeepsie Closure 'Unprecedented'

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A spokesman for the Golden Corral corporation has said that the buffet-style chain's first Dutchess County restaurant closed because the business "has fallen out of compliance with expectations" of a franchise agreement, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

The Golden Corral in Poughkeepsie has closed after just two months in business.

The restaurant at 2345 South Road, which opened in January after months of delays, closed abruptly earlier this week after just two months in business.

Because the restaurant has been found to be in violation of the franchise agreement between the corporation and franchisee owner Sherrance Henderson, it is likely the building will remain shuttered for some time, according to the Journal.

On Feb. 27, Daily Voice reported first-responders were dispatched to Golden Corral after receiving a report of an apparent drug overdose involving a male victim found in the bathroom, according to fire chief Tory G. Galante. To read that story, click here.

The buffet-style restaurant just opened earlier this month. A representative refused to comment on the incident Sunday.

The "unprecedented" closure is a first for Golden Corral, the company's spokesman said, adding that the corporation has never been forced to close a store so quickly after a grand opening, according to the Journal.

The incident leaves Golden Corral's future in Dutchess unclear, according to the Journal.
