A man has been arrested on charges of driving while ability impaired by drugs and alcohol after a chain-reaction Long Island Expressway crash sent four others to the hospital overnight. The incident occurred around 12:20 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, on the eastbound side, about 1,000 feet east of Nicolls Road in Holtsville. Police say Matthew Sheehy, age 46, of East Setauket, was driving a 2022 Dodge pickup when he struck a disabled 2010 Chrysler Town and Country parked on the right shoulder. A Long Island man is facing decades in prison after admitting to fatally shooting two people inside a home. Brian Cordovano, age 50, of Ronkonkoma and formerly of Bay Shore, was arrested following a traffic stop in Smithtown, on Columbus Avenue, just before noontime on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023. Police on Long Island are investigating the deaths of two young girls — ages 2 and 4 — who are believed to have drowned in a pond behind an apartment complex, authorities said. The girls were found behind the Fairfield Townhouses at Holtsville at 2 Victorian Court in Holtsville on Saturday, Sept. 7, the Suffolk County Police Department said. Health officials on Long Island are urging people to take precautions after testing of mosquitoes confirmed the presence of West Nile Virus. Twelve mosquito samples were positive for the virus following testing done at locations around Suffolk County, according to county Health Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott. Two men have been accused of burglarizing multiple businesses and stealing ATMs on Long Island. Following an investigation by Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives, the two were arrested and charged with a series of commercial burglaries and an attempted burglary between Tuesday, March 5, and Monday, March 11. Fatal Crash: 46-Year-Old ID'd As Victim In Holtsville
One person was killed in a single-vehicle crash on a busy Long Island roadway. It happened around 6:20 p.m. Thursday, June 13 in Holtsville. Jared Rueb, age 46, was operating a 2005 Honda motorcycle southbound on North Ocean Avenue by Peconic Avenue, when he lost control and struck a curb, according to Suffolk County Police. He was rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have not yet released Rueb's place of residence.
